An hour’s exciting flight from Delhi over the Himalayas with spectacular views of mountain ranges brings you to Leh, the capital of Ladakh.
Leh, The erstwhile capital of the kingdom of Ladakh is now a dream destination of many and the Mecca of adventure enthusiasts. Leh, one of the coldest deserts in the world is located at a distance of 434 km from Srinagar and 474 Km from Manali (Himachal Pradesh). At the time of the reorganization of districts in 1979, Ladakh was divided into Leh and Kargil and now Leh district is synonymous with Ladakh and vice-versa!

Stok is a village in the Leh district of Ladakh, India. It is located in the Leh tehsil, in the Indus Valley 17 km southeast of Leh town. The village is home to the 14th century Stok Monastery, with its 71 feet (22 m) high seated Gautama Buddha statue, constructed between 2012–2015 and consecrated by the Dalai Lama on 8 August 2016. Stok’s 19th-century palace is the current residence of the former royal family of Ladakh. Within the palace, a museum contains the shrine, crown, ceremonial dress, and jewellery of the Ladakhi king.

The approach to Zanskar is a spectacular forerunner of adventures ahead. You’ll head west from Leh across a beautiful, eerie moonscape, over the Fotu La pass, out of the Indus valley and past Kargil; through the Suru valley and over the Penzi La pass — the only access to the Zanskar Valley.
After rafting, we will head to Alchi straight with lunch in Alchi Kitchen.
Lunch at Alchi Kitchen
After lunch, we will visit the most unique monastery – Alchi Monestry.
Alchi is also part of the three villages, which constitute the ‘Alchi group of monuments’; the other two villages adjoining Alchi are the Mangyu and Sumda Chun. The monuments in these three villages are stated to be of "unique style and workmanship’, but the Alchi monastic complex is the best known.
The monastery complex was built, according to local tradition, by the great translator Guru Rinchen Zangpo between 958 and 1055. However, inscriptions in the preserved monuments ascribe it to a Tibetan noble called Kal-dan Shes-rab later in the 11th century.
Return to Le hen route visiting Basgo ruins.
Basgo ruins are situated on top of the hill towering over the ruins of the ancient town and are noted for their Buddha statue and murals. The complex comprises the Chamchung, Chambal Lakhang, and Serzang temples, dedicated to the Maitreya Buddha.
