Itinerary for Meghalaya

01ST JULY GUWAHATI – SHILLONG (120 KMS - 2.5 HRS APPROX.)

Arrive Guwahati, collect our bags, meet your Meraki representative outside the airport, and set off on your Meghalaya Tour.

En route we will stop at Umaim Lake and enjoy the fascinating view of the lake – The lake was formed after a dam was constructed to generate hydroelectric power. The scenic Umiam Lake is encircled by lush green East Khasi hills that form one of the best panoramic sights for nature lovers.

Further proceed towards Shillong.

On arrival check into hotel at 1400 hours, relax and get set to experience a trip of your lifetime!

02ND JULY SHILLONG – DOUBLE DECKER BRIDGE TREK (5 – 6 HOURS TREK) (DAY TRIP- START EARLY FROM SHILLONG)

Early breakfast at the hotel.

Today we will start our day early, we will start with our adventurous day with Double Decker Bridge Trek.

Start a trek from Tyrna Village (20 kms away from Cherrapunjee) to the only Double Decker Living Root bridge in the world, Nongriat, Nongthmmai. One has to cover 3800 concrete steps, village & jungle trail, 2 stream crossing by iron strings. The trek takes about 1.5 hrs. approximately.

After spending an hour around the double decker root bridge (Nongriate, Nongthymmai), proceed upwards towards the Rainbow Falls – Situated around 18 km from Cherrapunjee, Rainbow Waterfalls is a popular yet serene waterfall located near the Nongriat Village. It is located around 3 km from the Double Decker Root Bridge in Nongriat and can only be reached by trekking. Explore the clean and most gorgeous waterfalls in Meghalaya.

After an hour of ascents and descents some steep and a few gentle ones you will reach Rainbow Falls. Indeed a beautiful sight from the top of the hill, the turquoise blue pool of water is soothing to the eye. The waterfall thunders down into the pool wearing the natural rainbow sashay with pride.

Come down and meet at the parking point.

Drive back to the hotel.

03RD JULY SHILLONG – CHERRAPUNJEE (60 KMS - 2 HRS APPROX.) (DAY TRIP)

After breakfast, drive to Cherrapunjee en route visit Laitlum Canyon. Cherrapunji in Meghalaya is one of the wettest places on the planet and the only place in India to receive rain throughout the year. The town of Cherrapunji is nestled in the East Khasi Hills about 50 km southwest of the state’s capital, Shillong. Cherrapunji, also known as Sohra or Churra, means ‘the land of oranges. The cliffs of Cherrapunji also offer stunning views of the plains of Bangladesh.

We will Visit Nohkalikai Falls – Nohkalikai Falls is the tallest plunge waterfall in India. Its height is 340 metres (1,115 ft). The waterfall is located in the Indian state of Meghalaya, near Cherapunji, one of the wettest places on Earth.

Mawsmai Cave – Narrow, a rugged limestone cave with a dimly-lit access point, low overhangs & often uneven footing. Famous for its fossils, some of which you can spot if you spend some time peering at the walls and formations inside. The ten longest caves (and more) in the country are all in Meghalaya.

After lunch, we will visit Seven Sister Falls – Located in the wettest place on Earth, Cherrapunjee, Nohsngithiang Falls is a seven segmented waterfall that cascades down from a height of 315 m (1,033 feet) and has an average width of 70 m (230 feet). The falls plunge over the top of limestone cliffs of the Khasi Hills only during the rainy season. The seven segments of the waterfalls symbolize the seven sister states in the northeast namely Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram, and Meghalaya.

Wei Swadong Falls – Famous for its bluish-green, crystal-clear water, it is a spectacular fall in Sohra after crossing Dainthlen Falls on outskirts of Cherrapunjee in Meghalaya.

Elephant falls – Named after an Elephant like a stone at its foot, the Elephant Falls are amongst the most popular falls in the North-East, situated next to Shillong. It is a tourists paradise with three layers of the falls accessible to the layman from different vantage points. It is a superb place for spending some time in the midst of nature while capturing incredible moments for your keepsake.

04TH JULY SHILLONG – DAWKI & MAWLYNNONG – SHILLONG (90 KMS - 3 HRS EACH WAY)

Breakfast at the hotel.

After breakfast, drive from Shillong to Dawki (Indo-Bangladesh Border).

Visit the Indo-Bangladesh border followed by the Umngot River & enjoy the country boat ride here – Enjoy the breathtaking views in whichever direction you look and the fairyland like a river with crystal clear transparent water where you can see the river bed from its surface. Feels like Mother Nature herself healing us and carrying away all our worries along with her gentle breeze.

After lunch, proceed to the Mawlynnong Village – It is located in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya, also referred as ‘God’s own garden’ and won the acclaim of being the cleanest village in Asia in 2003. The village known for its cleanliness is located around 90 km from Shillong and is a community-based eco-tourism initiative. The community has made a collective effort to maintain the ambiance of a clean village.

Drive back to Shillong.

05TH JULY SHILLONG – LOCAL SIGHTSEEING – GUWAHATI (120 KMS- 3 HRS)

Breakfast at the hotel.

After breakfast, proceed towards a day full filled with sightseeing of Shillong.

We will start our day by visiting Mawphlang Sacred Forest – An untouched forest that is the soul of Khasi culture, Mawphlang is home to the most celebrated of all the ‘law-kyntang’ or ancient sacred groves of Meghalaya.

We will now visit the Laitlum Canyons (if time permits) – Much like the lakes of Meghalaya, the Laitlum Canyon is one of the best lakes in India which reminds one of the Scottish Highlands for their ethereal beauty. Situated in the Smit Valley, this canyon is almost always shrouded in fog which adds to the mystery and sublime beauty of this place.

Lady Hydari Park – A very popular tourist spot in Shillong, the park is dedicated to the first lady of the province – Lady Hydari. This sprawling park, located in the heart of the city encompasses a wide variety of flora along with a mini zoo housing 73 species of birds and over 100 reptiles.

After lunch, we will visit All Saints Church – All Saints Church is constructed on Kacheri Road in Shillong. One among the oldest churches in the city, this was built during the British Raj and boasts colonial-style architectural finesse.

Mawjymbuin Cave – Mawjymbuin cave is a 209 m high natural cave that is made up of calcareous sandstones. Also known as Krem Mawjymbuin, this cave consists of several stalagmites, which are formed as a result of weathering, calcium carbonate deposition, and dripping of mineral-enriched liquid. There is a Shiva Linga structure that has been a result of a giant pillar formation and is a natural and accurate formation of the Hindu deity.

Later, we will proceed ahead to Guwahati.

Check in to the hotel, relax & get ready in green ladies for the farewell dinner at the hotel with Traditional Assamese cuisine.

06TH JULY DEPARTURE – GUWAHATI AIRPORT
